Why Gift Giving Matters to Me

Gift giving hasn’t always come naturally to me. In fact, for a long time, I didn’t feel like I was very good at it. I would stress over whether something was “enough,” worry that it wasn’t thoughtful enough, and second-guess my choices.

But one thing I always knew for sure — when I did give a gift that truly landed, it felt better than opening a gift myself. That moment when someone’s face lights up… when they gasp… when they say, “Oh my gosh, this is so me.” That’s the magic.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve been highlighting gift sets, gift tips, and showcasing my handmade crochet pieces in gift-ready ways. That’s not random. It’s deeply personal.

How Handmade Changed My View of Gift Giving

When I started making handmade items, something shifted.
Suddenly, my gifts weren’t just things — they were time, effort, and intention. And I noticed something almost immediately: people responded differently.

There was more appreciation.
More thankfulness.
More emotion.

And honestly… I hear this from so many others too. Handmade gifts just hit different.

It’s not because they’re fancy or expensive. It’s because they say:

“I thought about you.”
“I picked this just for you.”
“You matter enough for me to put care into this.”

That realization is what led me to focus so much on gift ideas and gift tips inside my shop. I want to help you give gifts that feel meaningful — whether it’s for a best friend, a teacher, a coworker, or someone who’s impossible to shop for.

A Moment That Really Stuck With Me

This past Christmas, my mom told me something that stuck with me. She noticed that my younger brother really leaned into the season of giving this year. To be fair, both of my brothers are extremely thoughtful men, and give great gifts — but this year was different for my younger brother.

He went above and beyond.
Not for praise… but for the smiles.

And you could tell — he loved it.
And you could see the pride on my mom’s face watching him.

That’s when it hit me:
Gift giving isn’t just about the person receiving the gift.
It’s about everyone around them too.
It’s about shared joy.
It’s about connection.

Why I Focus on Gifts in My Shop

In a world where we could all use:
✔ more love
✔ more thoughtfulness
✔ more smiles

Gift giving is where I found my niche.

That’s why I design my handmade crochet items with gifting in mind — from scrunchies and headbands to drawstring bags and decor. They’re meant to be easy to pair, easy to wrap, and easy to give.

Some of my favorite giftable pieces:

Each piece is made with care, because I know it’s not just a product — it’s part of a moment between you and someone you care about.

A Gentle Reminder About Kindness

In today's world, it feels like we’re all moving fast, carrying a lot, and needing a little extra gentleness these days. A little more patience. A little more care. A gift can’t solve everything — but it can pause someone’s day and remind them they’re not invisible.

Sometimes kindness shows up as:

  • a handmade gift
  • a simple, thoughtful surprise
  • something warm and personal
  • something that says, “I thought about you.”

That’s what I want Handmade by Erika Liesel to support — those small, meaningful moments that stay with people.

My Goal for You

Whether you feel confident in gift giving or you’re still figuring it out (like I was), my hope is that Handmade by Erika Liesel helps you give gifts that:

✨ feel intentional
